All things are ready for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar and people are excited and thrilled.  Football is a celebrated sport worldwide, and this year’s FIFA World Cup is the football event everyone is hyped for. After all, it was over 3 years when Qatar was announced as the official host of the event.

The official logo was also launched last September 2019.  During the ceremony, the country’s most recognizable structures, including the Burj Doha, the Katara Cultural Village Amphitheatre, the Souq Waqif, and the Al Zubarah Fort, projected the logo at the same time.

The logo was simultaneously shown in a total of 24 other cities. This includes London, Johannesburg, Mexico City, Mumbai, Paris, Seoul, and other major city centers.

As a designer, it’s no secret that every logo has a purpose behind it. And the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar Logo has a profound meaning. Let’s take a deeper dive into its connections to Qatar’s culture.

The Official Qatar 2022 World Cup Logo


The official Qatar 2022 World Cup logo is a combination of Arabic calligraphy and the 2022 World Cup dates. The design is intended to represent Qatar’s maritime tradition, as well as its history of resilience.

Invoking classic Arabic calligraphy in a fresh, modern font, the typeface combines heritage with a contemporary vibe. The said typeface is based on the calligraphic style of traditional Arabic lettering. and reflects Qatar’s heritage as well as its future. The design is intended to be timeless and can be used in any context.

In addition to taking inspiration from the FIFA World Cup Trophy, the emblem’s core also used the conventional wool shawl. Shawls are a common wintertime accessory used all around the world.  This may allude to the fact that the World Cup coincides with the winter. Nevertheless, the wool shawl is an important accessory in Arab and Gulf countries. The winter outfit with regional inspiration also makes reference to the start dates of the competition and the fact that it will be the first FIFA World Cup to be held in November and December.

The emblem also uses the infinite symbol, stylized in the number 8—which is meant to symbolize the event’s “interconnected character and its resemblance to the number eight relating to the number of stadiums utilized.

Unique Arabic Calligraphy

The Arabic calligraphy on the Qatar 2022 logo used on the 2022 World Cup logo is symbolic and unique. The writing style, called Naskh (نسخ), has been used in Arabic writing since the 7th century, but it only started to appear on logos like this one. It was designed by Hassan Al-Thawadi, who created a special font just for this occasion. The shape of the letters is meant to represent an Arabian dhow boat—the national symbol of Qatar—capturing the essence of the “maritime tradition.”

World Cup Dates

The 2022 World Cup kicked off last November 20 at Al Bayt Stadium. It will finish on December 18 at Lusail Stadium in Doha. The first match took place on November 18.

According to Skysports, here are the groups playing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup:

The 2022 World Cup will begin with 32 teams in 8 groups of 4:

  • Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands
  • Group B: England, Iran, USA, Wales
  • Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland
  • Group D: France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia
  • Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan
  • Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia
  • Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon
  • Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

The group stage will last for 12 days and will feature 4 matches, During the group stage, the winners and runners-up advance to the round of 16.

Who designed the FIFA world cup 2022 logo?

The 2022 World Cup was designed by a company called Aspire. Aspire is an education and training organization established in Doha, Qatar in 1999. It has since grown to become the largest sports academy in the Middle East and North Africa region. Today, it has over 15,000 students enrolled annually at its various centers across the globe.

Executives from FIFA commissioned them to design this logo because of their experience working with top sports teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea FC (among others). They had also designed other major sporting events such as Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit track designs.

2022 World Cup Official Banners

The official Banners for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ are identical to the logo. They are meant to be used as a secondary brand mark, mainly in social media and on partner websites.

The official banners are primarily used when communicating information about the event, such as dates and ticketing updates. Fun fact: these banners come with a gold border around them, while the logo does not have this border.

Also, note that these banners have a white and green background instead of blue like the rest of Qatar’s logos. Lastly, pay attention to how we included “Qatar 2022″ in our design—this is important because it helps differentiate between legitimate materials and fake ones!

The design of the Qatar 2022 logo leads to the belief that it represents the country’s maritime tradition. The logo itself is inspired by a traditional sailing ship known as a dhow. What are the most expensive logos created in modern history? Logos are an important part of any company’s branding strategy. It helps people remember your company and can even lead to increased sales. Your logos will end up in packaging and online posts and news reports and so on. British Petroleum (BP)

The British Petroleum (BP) logo cost around $210,000,000 to make. Yup—that green and yellow flowery emblem remains as one of the most expensive logos in history. Resembling the Helios, the logo signifies the company’s desire to showcase an environmentally friendly image. They implemented the color psychology of green and yellow’s environmental approach while also shapes that may remind viewers of leaves, solidifying the eco-friendly logo design, to extensive criticism.

Pepsi (Redesign)

Costing around $1,000,000 Pepsi’s well-known logo is recognizable on a global scale because of its rivalry with Coca-Cola for supremacy in the market for sweet carbonated beverages. This backdrop Pepsi paid for wanted to maintain its original colors while modifying its brand to the current flat design trend. As a result, the red hue is more noticeable in the new Pepsi Logo.

The main goal of this logo redesign was to bring the Pepsi brand up to date with design trends, compete with Coca-Cola, and expand its global visibility. While they currently haven’t been able to beat Coca-Cola, the redesign was a great success from a design standpoint.

London 2012 Olympics

We placed the London 2012 Olympics on this—which costs them $625,000—considering it’s a one-time logo use for such a large sum. Designed by Wolff Olins in 2007, this logo was used for both the 2012 Summer Olympics and the Paralympics in London. The logo utilized a cubism art style using angular squares styled in a manner, that many were not fond of due to a lack of reminiscence to cultural or historical symbols and art.

BBC Logo (Redesign)

It’s safe to assume that English-speaking people all around the world are familiar with the British Broadcasting Company’s famous logo. Even though this logo was a success, the BBC modified its look once more in 2021, spending “tens of thousands” on a revamp. Although the precise cost of the business’s straightforward block-based logo is unclear, estimates place it around $1,800,000. The updated design, which replaces the black box backdrop with a deep grey one and just slightly modifies the lettering, has generated considerable debate. Numerous clients have complained that the business shouldn’t have spent so much money on a design that is so identical to the preceding picture. The BBC, however, remains adamant about its decision.

The nine-digit sum of $100,000,000 was paid for the logo, which included the organization’s name, as well as its characteristics and the numerical picture at the top. The main idea was that the company is constantly working toward the future, for growth and improvement. Despite criticism directed at the logotype as well, the firm is currently successfully operating in the market and has built a solid enough reputation for its brand.

Accenture’s logo design was somewhat modified. Rotis Sans Serif Extra Bold 75 is the current standard typeface and the words “high performance” are underlined next to the lowercase version of the company name (Accenture) and the word “Delivered” and a greater-than symbol above the letter “t.”

Melbourne’s official emblem has gradually grown to be recognized worldwide. It is meant to symbolize the corporate strength, vibrant, and cool metropolis that Melbourne is today because of its crisp lines and combination of the colors green and blue. Additionally, it won’t change in the future either. The logo was created in 2009 by the Landor Associates Sydney office. The City of Melbourne provided $148,000 for this outstanding effort. The logo’s design is appealing and depicts Melbourne as a fashionable, affluent city that is adjusting to the modern world. The logo is very wonderful and lively. This logo received rave reviews from everyone.

And the most expensive logo goes to Symantec—costing a whopping amount of $1,280,000,000. A spot for the logo of a major tech company may seem like an odd choice for this list. But as designer Paul Rand once said, “Good design is good business.” And Symantec’s logo is not only good design; it’s great business. The company’s original name was “Symantec Anti-Virus.” While this name was so generic that it could have applied to any software company making anti-virus protection, its founder knew he wanted to be more than just another antivirus software maker.

Rand’s answer was simple: create something unique that would make people remember your brand over others. Rand had already done some significant work with IBM at this point and had developed a reputation as one of America’s most famous designers—so much so that when Steve Jobs later approached him about designing fonts for Apple computers (which he did), Jobs told Rand upfront how much money he would pay him per character ($100). This made Rand hesitant at first but ultimately agreed because he believed in Jobs’ vision for Apple products overall and felt they’d be worth the investment—and they were!

Branding is expensive, very expensive.

Branding is an important part of any business—and it can be extremely costly. 1. Adidas

The Adidas logo, which features three stripes, was first introduced in 1967. The stripes were initially designed by the company’s founder, Adi Dassler, in the 1940s as a way to provide extra support and stability to the brand’s athletic shoes.

Of course, the logo evolved over time, with the three stripes becoming a prominent feature of Adidas’ branding. In 1971, the company introduced its now-iconic Trefoil logo, which features three stripes that converge into a single shape. 

However, in the early 1990s, Adidas decided to update its branding to reflect a more modern and streamlined aesthetic. The company introduced its current logo, which features three stripes that are tilted upwards to represent the brand’s forward momentum. 

2. Gucci

The Gucci logo features two interlocking G’s, which stand for the brand’s founder, Guccio Gucci. Gucci started his career as a porter in a luxury hotel in Paris in the early 1900s, where he was inspired by the elegant luggage carried by the hotel’s wealthy guests.

In 1921, Gucci opened his first leather goods shop in Florence, Italy, where he began producing high-quality luggage and accessories. Over time, Gucci’s designs became increasingly popular, and the brand quickly developed a reputation for luxury and sophistication.

However, in the 1960s, Gucci’s son, Aldo Gucci, began experimenting with new branding ideas. Because of this, h created the now-iconic interlocking G’s logo, which quickly became synonymous with the Gucci brand. Since then, we’ve gotten some minor tweaks on the logo. However, the two Gs still remain. 

3. Unilever

The Unilever logo features a series of icons, including a dove, a palm tree, and a series of arrows. Because the whole icon is so storied, each of these icons represents one of the company’s core values and business areas.

The Unilever logo was first introduced in 2004 as part of a rebranding effort aimed at simplifying the company’s branding and visual identity. Finally, the new logo was designed to be more modern and dynamic, while still reflecting the company’s core values and business areas.

4. Disney

The logo features the word “Disney” in a distinctive, looping font, along with a stylized image of Cinderella’s Castle, which is based on the real-life Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany.

The Disney logo has undergone several changes over the years, with the earliest version featuring the word “Disney” in a more basic font and without the castle image. In addition, the castle image was added in 1985, as part of a rebranding effort aimed at emphasizing the company’s theme park and resort business.

The Disney logo has also appeared in various colors and styles over the years. In fact, this included a rainbow-colored version used to commemorate Pride Month.

5. Starbucks

The Starbucks logo features a twin-tailed mermaid or siren. The logo was first introduced in 1971, when Starbucks was still a small, independent coffee roaster based in Seattle. The original logo featured a brown, simplified version of the siren, with no text or branding.

Over time, the logo evolved, with the siren becoming more stylized and the branding becoming more prominent. In the late 1980s, the logo was redesigned to feature a green and white color scheme, which has become synonymous with the Starbucks brand.

6. Wendy’s

Wendy’s is a fast-food chain that was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas. The restaurant was named after his daughter, Melinda Lou “Wendy” Thomas. In fact, the original Wendy’s logo featured an illustration of a little girl with red pigtails, which was based on Dave Thomas’s daughter, Wendy.

In 1983, Wendy’s underwent a brand redesign and commissioned a new logo. The new logo featured an updated version of the little girl with red pigtails, this time wearing a more modern outfit and surrounded by a wordmark. The logo was designed by Landor Associates, a global branding and design firm.

However, In 2012, Wendy’s underwent another brand redesign and introduced a new logo. Now, the new logo features an updated version of the little girl, but this time she appears to be “holding” the wordmark. The logo refresh was led by Tesser, a brand design firm based in San Francisco.

7. Olive Garden

Olive Garden is an American chain of Italian-themed restaurants that was founded in 1982. The restaurant’s logo features a simple yet elegant design, with the words “Olive Garden” written in green text with an olive branch above it.

The olive branch is a symbol of peace, which fits with the restaurant’s Italian theme of warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the green color of the text and olive branch represents the freshness and naturalness of the ingredients used in Olive Garden’s dishes.

Now, the original Olive Garden logo featured a more detailed olive branch, with multiple leaves and olives. However, the current logo, introduced in 2014, features a simplified olive branch with a single olive and fewer leaves.

8. Ralph Lauren

The Ralph Lauren logo features a polo player on horseback, holding a mallet and poised to hit a ball. The logo is simple, elegant, and instantly recognizable.

The story behind the logo is that it was inspired by Ralph Lauren’s love of polo. Polo is a sport that is often associated with the wealthy and the elite, and Ralph Lauren was drawn to its glamour and sophistication. He saw an opportunity to create a brand that embodied this same sense of luxury and exclusivity, and the polo player logo was born.

The logo first appeared in 1971 on the chest of a shirt in the Ralph Lauren men’s collection. Since then, it has become one of the most iconic logos in fashion. It has since been updated and refined over the years, but the basic design has remained the same.

9. IBM

IBM’s logo has evolved over time, but its most recognizable form is the one with the letters “IBM” in a horizontal striped pattern. Here’s a brief history of how the logo came to be.

In 1911, the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR) was formed as the result of a merger between four different companies. The company produced a wide range of products, including scales, clocks, and punch-card machines.

The company changed its name to International Business Machines (IBM) in 1924. Plus, the company’s first logo featured the company’s full name in a circular pattern.

Next, in 1947, IBM’s logo was redesigned by graphic designer Paul Rand. The new logo featured the letters “IBM” in a horizontal striped pattern. Rand’s design was intended to be simple, clean, and modern. Over the years though, IBM’s logo has undergone some minor modifications, but the basic design has remained the same. 

10. BMW

The BMW logo has a fascinating history. That’s because the logo, which consists of a circle divided into four quadrants with alternating blue and white colors, is often said to represent a propeller in motion. However, this is actually a myth.

In reality, the BMW logo has its roots in the company’s origins as a manufacturer of airplane engines. In fact, the blue and white color scheme was taken from the colors of the flag of Bavaria, the German state where the company was founded. Because of this, the circular design was meant to represent a spinning propeller, which was a common symbol of aviation at the time.

In fact, the company has stated that the logo is not intended to represent a propeller or airplane, but rather the colors of Bavaria. The design has gone through several revisions over the years, but the basic circular shape and blue-and-white color scheme have remained consistent.

Famous logos have an infinitely storied past. After all, these symbols are now corporate icons, but behind each one lies a story that often goes untold.
