Every team understands the importance of graphic design for marketing. Graphic design is the art of communicating a message using visual content.  It has a huge impact on brand awareness and conversion. This is why entrepreneurs and key decision-makers know that graphic design and business are inseparable. Graphic designers blend typography, photography, illustrations, motion graphics, and page layout techniques to meet specific goals. Taken together, this optimizes user experience and results in higher conversion.

A high-quality graphic design portfolio helps businesses achieve key marketing targets. For instance, it adds a contemporary flair to advertisements, surpasses language barriers, and highlights the company’s creative minds. It is essentially creativity driven by purpose. But as creative trends come and go, it’s important for marketing teams to stay ahead of the curve.

Impact of Graphic Design in 2024

Think of the most iconic brands we know today.

Perhaps what springs to mind are their massive marketing campaigns that struck a chord with audiences worldwide. Graphic design is an essential part of marketing campaigns—it catapults products into the spotlight and into the center of conversations.

It can immediately put a relatively unknown brand on the radar and accelerate global sales. Not only that, it can ensure a company stays relevant. This is because engaging graphics make a company feel refreshingly modern and trendy.

The Importance of Brand Strategy

First of all, its importance in branding strategy cannot be overstated. Graphic designers carefully think through every line, color, and logo variation. Afterward, they go through testing to make sure that they evoke the right emotions and spark the right ideas.

A product’s unique selling points can be concisely communicated in a logo alone. Think about the simplicity of Facebook, the softness of Airbnb, and the statement of the Rolling Stones logos.

Captivating graphic design can also level up omnichannel marketing campaigns. For example, a billboard that makes you look up from your work commute. Maybe a flyer that you want to read a second time. Or a social media graphic that makes you stop scrolling. Needless to say, all of them require a thoughtful creative eye.

Above all, graphic design comes in many shapes and forms, each with its own optimized anatomy. For example, videos and animations likely need a different set of skills to master than banner ads. This is, in turn, different from a business card that needs to quickly highlight key contact information.

With all this variety, it’s clear that graphic design enriches the marketing industry. An unlimited graphic design service can be the key to unlocking all the benefits for any forward-thinking marketing, sales, or product team.

Graphic Design for Digital Marketing

As the online world grows, the importance of graphic design in digital marketing has never been greater.

As with everything, there are good and bad graphic designs. Bad graphic designs get lost in the sea of online content and can have negative audience responses. On the other hand, good graphic designs hit your KPI targets and exponentially grow your online presence.

It’s critical to note that the same methods cannot be applied across all online platforms. For example, graphic designs that drive results on social media will likely not get the same response for email marketing campaigns. This is why it makes sense to dive into the details for each channel.

1. Facebook

Facebook’s massive online reach undeniably makes it one of the most powerful tools ever created for digital marketing. There are over 4.4 billion registered users and social ad impressions are increasing 20% year on year. Therefore, the most effective marketing strategies correctly leverage the Facebook algorithm.

Here are a few of our battle-tested tips:

  • It’s important to not overwhelm the ad with text if you want to boost engagement. Stick to the 80-20 rule: 80% graphics and 20% text. Make the text powerful and concise to spark interest.
  • Make sure the caption complements the image. You can even use emojis to add character and directly evoke certain emotions.
  • Try out some motion graphics, such as videos and animations. These formats add an element of surprise and help with engagement.
  • Know Facebook’s standard dimensions. This ensures that your ad is optimized across all layouts.

2. Instagram

Instagram’s user interface purposefully puts the spotlight on visual content. Above all, it’s critical that your Instagram content stands out

Here’s what makes a design Insta-worthy:

  • Unlike Facebook, Instagram is completely dominated by visual designs over text. Eye-catching colors, high-quality resolutions, and bold creativity are your most powerful tools here.
  • Ensure that any text you wish to include is not covered by the CTA button on Instagram stories.
  • Curate a feed that aligns with your brand colors, aesthetic and messaging. When users first visit your profile, it’s the entire feed that takes up the visual field, not individual posts.
  • Don’t forget to include powerful hashtags to help increase brand exposure and discovery.

3. Email

It’s no longer enough to send out mass emails that feel soulless and advertising-heavy.

Customer relationships are activated and nurtured through meaningful email content. Similarly, emails that are tailored to different target audiences produce the best results because they feel personalized. Following on from this, automated email funnels that incorporate the right content can guide a lot of high-value leads down the purchasing funnel.

But text alone can’t accomplish this.

Graphic designs add character and energy to email marketing strategies. They can include on-brand banners, illustrations, and animated GIFs. Consequently, these all serve to better engage and connect with the reader.

Here are some strategies that we take into account when creating email marketing graphics

  • Attention-grabbing graphic designs at the top of an email can help turn a simple click into a read.
  • Illustrations and infographics help summarize key information and drive a point home.
  • Banners are useful for highlighting CTA messages.

Graphic Design for Print Materials

Print design covers a huge variety. This includes T-shirts, business cards, labels, bags, posters, and menus. Forward-thinking marketers who want to expand their brand reach must eventually consider the print design. It adds a layer of personal touch to customer relationships and extends it beyond the original purchased product.

We remember 20% of what we read and 80% of what we see. The most effective print designs can effortlessly capture attention. They do this through stunning visual appeal and communicating critical information. In conclusion, they drive results because of a perfectly balanced blend of function and creativity.

1. Merchandise Design

Merchandise design is an excellent marketing tool. Customers can support your brand awareness strategy even when they are not using your product. When you’re carrying branded shopping bags, wearing branded clothing, or using branded gifts, you are indirectly marketing to others.

A potential customer can be converted into a paying customer by consistently encountering your brand on a variety of different merchandise. Therefore, having thoughtfully designed merchandise can also show people that you are investing in marketing. Above all, this helps build a positive image of your brand

2. Packaging Design

It’s important to strike a balance between functionality and advertising with packaging design. Ultimately, it could be the final push that encourages potential customers to pick your product off the shelf.

Firstly, it must reliably hold and protect what it carries inside. Following on from this, there are a number of different materials you can choose from. Each material has varying strength, durability, texture, and cost.

Secondly, it should communicate information that you want your customers to know before they use your product. Here you’ll have to decide how to highlight certain product information. The most important ones may include ingredients, contact information, and usage instructions.

And lastly, it should also shine a spotlight on some of your brand’s core values. Doing so will help your customers feel connected to your story. This in turn builds loyalty. Do you have a commitment to sustainability? Are you using proprietary technology? Do you want your packaging to reflect your minimalist aesthetic? Or are you after a more vibrant look? You can show these things in your packaging design.

3. Branding and Print Design

Brochures, flyers, and posters are important ways to raise awareness about promotions or upcoming events. Furthermore, they can also be a customer’s first encounter with your brand. What key information do you want to convey? Do you want to spread awareness of limited-time discounts? Where should you place your logo?

The most popular print designs are probably business cards. Above all, these must effectively highlight your contact information and be on-brand. You should always be proud when handing out your business card!

Types of Graphic Design

There are many different types of graphic designs. Each of them accomplishes unique targets. Together, they form a comprehensive and cohesive creative strategy. We’ll explore the forms you may have encountered, and when you may choose to use them.

1. Static Images

Static images are perhaps the most deceptively simple. They are often associated with traditional marketing. You’ll see static images everywhere, from billboards to flyers. Digital marketers have also cleverly leveraged static images. This is usually in the form of social media graphics and Google display banners.

However, none of these forms are actually simple.

It’s important to be aware of all the various factors at play. These include the target audience, standard dimensions of each design, and delivery model. Also whether you are optimizing for awareness or conversion, and the quality of the designs themselves.

A shopping discount brochure meant for a general audience may likely be seen once. It needs to quickly communicate key information to keep the event top of mind. On the other hand, graphics for online ad campaigns can be retargeted to customers who are further down the purchasing funnel. It should still be visually stunning to stand out from all the other online content.

In general, an effective ad should be 80% visual and 20% text. This anatomy has been proven to drive information retention. In addition, it is also a great way for designers to showcase their talent. It’s the ideal balance between communicating key information through text and using creativity to make the information stick.

2. Animated GIFs

Animated GIFs are almost always found in modern digital marketing strategies. Motion adds variety and character to the endless amount of online content we encounter every day. That may just be enough to encourage someone to stop scrolling! Therefore, it’s really no surprise that tech-savvy digital marketers increasingly tap into animated GIFs.

Additionally, most GIFs are 5-15 seconds long and this extra time can help you convey more information compared to a static image. Nevertheless, it’s still important to choose what information you’d like to showcase. Not to mention, the most appropriate way to incorporate it. For example, an animated GIF that’s too information-heavy or one that moves too fast, will not be memorable.

3. Animations and Videos

The next level up in complexity is animations and videos. But these aren’t the boring lecture videos you may remember from school! Rather, they’re an incredibly engaging tool for digital marketers to leverage.

The most effective videos have a catchy hook to encourage the viewer to continue watching the video and as well as a memorable outro. Moreover, summary slides with bullet points help add structure to the video and highlight key takeaways.

Explainer videos are an important part of any marketing campaign that wants to deep dive into a particular topic. As a result, they are often found in the later stages of a campaign when the potential customer is actively researching your product before making the purchase.

Marketers can add specific information in a video and establish a personal connection with the viewer. This is also why they can also be used to build customer loyalty. For example, you can use them to communicate product updates or big company developments to customers.

Color Psychology of Graphic Design

What is the best color for marketing? Hint: check out our infographic for the answer.

Just to be clear, the right color significantly levels up the impact of a design. On the other hand, the wrong color can have an undesirable effect. It may also result in missed marketing opportunities.

By striking the right balance, the best graphic designers expertly leverage colors to influence consumer psychology and increase conversion.

List of Colors and Their Associated Emotions

  • Red: stimulates heightened emotions such as excitement and hunger. Can also signify urgency or danger.
  • Yellow: often associated with happiness and creativity
  • Orange: an invigorating color used to show affordability
  • Green: the color of environmentalism, nature, and wellness
  • Blue: this reliable color is used by companies who want to convey trust, security, and tech-savviness
  • Purple: this rare color symbolizes royalty and luxury
  • White: professionalism, science, and simplicity

Real-Life Examples of Color Psychology in Logos and Branding

Red is often used by fast food companies to encourage hunger and consumption. Think McDonald’s and Burger King

Orange is a solid color choice for CTA buttons. This is because of its double appeal to the happiness of yellow and the energetic punch of red. Customers know that they are clicking on a good deal! Furthermore, it subtly stands out from the crowd with its invigorating shade. This is why companies like MasterCard, Nickelodeon, and Fanta gravitate towards orange.

Yellow logos such as Shell, Ikea, and Nikon reflect positivity and youthful energy. These companies want you to know that using their product brings happiness.

Green is the primary color found in the logos of Spotify, Starbucks, and Whole Foods. Its association with health and wellness makes consumers feel balanced.

Blue has proven time and time again to be a powerhouse in marketing and branding because of its association with trust. Facebook, Visa, and Intel use blue to remind customers that they are benefiting from world-class security and innovation when using their products.

Conversion-rate Optimization

Conversion rate optimization is the process of increasing the percentage of website visitors that take a certain action. This can be buying a product, leaving contact information, or subscribing to social media channels.

It was naturally born as tech-savvy companies became aware of the need for insights into website visitor behavior. Website analytics reveals all the touchpoints that consumers encountered. Now marketing teams knew precisely what works and what doesn’t. This was massively beneficial to teams looking to improve the conversion funnel through incredible user experience.

How Graphic Design Optimizes the Conversion Funnel

High-quality graphic design meaningfully optimizes the conversion funnel in a variety of ways. You can also check out our infographic for a summary.

1. First Impressions

Graphic design creates a resounding first impression on potential high-value leads or customers.

Think about the most memorable brands you’ve encountered or the most effective marketing campaigns—chances are the visuals come to mind first, before the text.

As visual creatures, we are naturally drawn towards stunning visuals. The best graphic designs resonate with us immediately when we see them. This is why they stay top of mind.

2. Uniqueness

Graphic design helps set you apart from the competition.

The right choice of bold, invigorating colors can engage with the target audience. It encourages them to take a second look. In a content-heavy world, that second look can make a huge difference in conversion rates.

3. Credibility

It’s not by random chance that the most successful global brands have invested serious time and money into pixel-perfect graphic designs.

Potential customers take note when you’ve invested in high-quality graphic designs. This is to say, they’re more likely to feel positively towards a brand that cares about every aspect of their experience.

Sloppiness with marketing could imply sloppiness on the product side. Adding a level of professionalism to the graphic designs that carry your logo and name, encourages customers to place trust in your brand.

Conversion-driven landing pages

Graphic design has pushed the needle forward in web design. This is most evident in conversion-driven landing pages.

Spam-like websites full of overwhelming content confuses the visitor. Furthermore, key information gets missed and the call to action gets lost. On the other hand, sleek web designs are incredibly user-friendly. Furthermore, it seamlessly presents key benefits of the product and walks them through interesting information. This can include the brand’s history, vision, and community outreach efforts. Apart from this, it can also highlight a specific call to action that is swiftly engaged.

Web design should be regarded as a branding tool. For best practices, web design should align with the company’s brand style guide. This entails using the correct color palette and showcasing branded custom illustrations to add character.

The best websites also have multiple communication touch points. This enables the visitor to talk with a team member through email and chat. It can encourage them to subscribe to social media channels to stay in the loop.

Social media

Graphic design reigns king in the visual world of social media.

Its high impact on the performance of online marketing & branding campaigns is undeniable. Better yet, their effectiveness can be quantified using data that tracks conversion rate. It’s been shown that the best graphic designs grab attention and increase click-through rates on social media ads.

In addition, scroll-stopping creativity gets the main stage on social media platforms. However, they’re only half of the story. Additionally, it’s important to have precise targeting so that your ads are being seen by the right people. Marketers looking to capture more qualified leads should evaluate the quality of their graphic designs alongside the effectiveness of their audience targeting.

Design Production

1. Graphic Design Freelancers

Frustrated with the exhausting search for world-class graphic designs for a reasonable price?

You’re not alone. For decades the graphic design industry was vastly limited.

You might have looked through some freelancer sites. It may initially appear to be the cheapest solution. However, poor quality control, pricing inconsistency, and communication issues can crop up. Freelancers can charge anywhere from $30 up to a whopping $250 per hour. Furthermore, if a design is unsatisfactory, any revisions will almost certainly warrant extra costs. Finally, trying to coordinate multiple freelancers to work on larger projects together adds unnecessary stress to your busy work schedule.

2. Creative Agencies

And then there’s the other end of the spectrum: graphic design agencies that charge an eye-watering fee. Pricing alone puts them out of reach of many smaller businesses trying to get creative content within a reasonable budget.

They’re usually managing a high volume of design requests. You’ll be part of the queue of people waiting to get their designs or waiting to talk to an account manager. Speak to anyone working in an agency, and they’ll likely try to lower your expectations regarding deadlines. That’s because timelines are always changing as they juggle multiple marketing campaigns.

Finally, they charge high prices simply because they can. Most of their clients are legacy companies that are used to getting their designs the traditional way. By working with clients who may not be aware of more modern graphic design solutions, they’re able to keep prices up. You not likely to get your money’s worth when working with a graphic design agency.

3. Internal Designers

Internal designers fall somewhere in between. While it may seem appealing to have an on-demand creative team that is familiar with the brand style, it’s actually much less cost-effective. First of all, salaries and computer hardware and software costs must be factored in. These are unavoidable overheads that come with maintaining an in-house team of designers.

Second, this option is much less scalable. When the creative workload decreases, you cannot quickly adjust headcount to compensate. On the other hand, when the demand for creative content increases, such as before a major marketing campaign, you’ll have to waste time recruiting and training designers.

Finally, there’s the issue of creative expression. Their work may eventually feel uninspiring after spending years working at the same company. Moreover, customers are always on the lookout for refreshing, original designs. For that you may benefit from a fresh pair of creative eyes.

4. Unlimited Design Subscription

For many years, there was no middle ground for businesses that wanted high quality designs, seamlessly delivered on time, but could not (and should not) justify forking over huge amounts of cash.

Unlimited graphic design services were created to fill in this gap. It is now possible to have an on-demand, affordable and efficient graphic design team that scales with your business growth.

This type of creative partner delivers highly engaging and converting designs without any hidden fees. Their deep familiarity with creative trends supports even the most demanding of campaigns. It also drives results across multiple channels.

Their flexible model puts the power back into your hands. You can conveniently choose the most cost-effective plan that best matches your needs. And, what if those change? No worries- you’ll always be able to upgrade or cancel your plan whenever required.

Online design work is built into their DNA. They work with clients from a variety of countries and time zones. This tech-savvy team is continually optimizing the creative process. They are making it more efficient and user-friendly.

It’s easy to see why more and more companies around the world are turning to unlimited graphic design services to offload their creative workload.

Here are 15 reasons why unlimited graphic design services make the most sense for entrepreneurs and teams looking to truly get the most value out of their money.

15 Reasons Why On-Demand Unlimited Graphic Design Subscriptions Rule

1. Pricing Transparency

It’s time to say “goodbye” to hidden fees.

With DotYeti’s monthly plans, you benefit from unlimited graphic designs and unlimited revisions for a flat rate starting from $449 per month (more discounts for longer subscriptions). We dislike unexpected charges ourselves. That’s why we’ve made it one of our core values to be upfront about pricing and what each plan covers. You’ll certainly know exactly what you’re getting and how much each month will cost.

We’re not here to surprise you with fees. We’re here to get your creative work done in the most efficient way possible!

2. Reliable High Quality

Our designers are professionals who go above and beyond to help bring your idea to life. We consistently outperform our competitors in terms of quality and our clients regularly compliment our creativity.

In line with that, we believe that our design skills speak volumes by action, more than words. Therefore, DotYeti’s services come with a 14-day money-back guarantee.

3. Fast Turnaround Time

We are familiar with the need for lightning fast turnaround arounds. DotYeti commits to a turnaround time of 48 hours depending on the complexity of the design brief. Therefore, no more stressing over missing a deadline. We have a clear and transparent workflow. You’ll always be kept in the loop on project status and expected delivery dates. You can depend on us to stick to agreed-upon dates so that you’ll never have to delay your important dates ever again.

4. Unlimited Revisions

Revisions are a normal part of the design process. And we never cap your imagination by fixing a number of revision requests.

Who knows when a creative spark will hit? It’s best to work together to make sure a design hits all your marketing goals, instead of leaving a project half-finished.

As part of your unlimited graphic design plan, you’ll get unlimited revisions without any extra charges. On the contrary, when working with freelancers or agencies, you can only go so far with revisions before communication conflicts and output quality concerns arise. Such obstacles are avoided with DotYeti.

5. Long term Growth

DotYeti strongly believes in sustainable, long-term partnerships. To us, you’re never just a number. We’re never racing to be done with your project and on to the next client. We want to learn more about your brand as you grow. We’ll know we’ve succeeded when you trust us to grow with your business, no matter where that goes

We don’t like to bind our clients to long-term contracts. This is because we, as graphic designers, know that creative workloads naturally change. You have the ability to pause, resume, upgrade or cancel your plan to get the perfect match for your needs. We’re ready to be your creative partner at all times and support all levels of graphic design needs.

6. World-class Clients

We’ve collaborated with over 100 well-known, multinational brands who rely on DotYeti to deliver on-brand, powerful, and converting designs. Furthermore, we are deeply committed to maintaining rigorous quality standards so that our designs, shown to millions of people worldwide, continue to supercharge marketing efforts.

Aside from working with larger clients, we are truly proud of our work with smaller businesses. DotYeti offers high quality creative output for an entry level price as part of our mission to make graphic design accessible. We believe that everyone, no matter their budget and experience, should have the best creative support to bring their ideas to life.

7. Incomparable Originality & Creativity

Your unique visual identity is what sets you apart from the competition. Therefore, they shouldn’t be passed over when a potential customer encounters them for the first time. To us, designs are more than just designs. They’re an extension of your business, and they should look for the job!

Other alternative graphic design services work with templates. Therefore, you’ll notice this in designs that feel unimaginative. Instead of treating your request with utmost importance, you’ll get a slightly modified version of a pre-existing design that they feel is sufficient for your needs.

Most of the time, that’s not what you’re looking for.

DotYeti takes a more personalized approach. We specialize in original, customized designs that are specially made to power up your campaigns. Moreover, we assign a personal graphic designer for your entire project to make sure all designs are on-brand.

Your brand story and vision are unique. Your graphic designs should be too.

8. Versatile Graphic Design Team

We know that marketing campaigns these days need more than one type of design. Our team of multi-talented graphic designers offers one of the most extensive portfolios in the industry.

DotYeti creates logos, graphics, web designs, videos, GIFs, banners, merchandise designs, illustrations, and much more. Furthermore, all designs are purposefully made to amplify your messaging and convert leads into customers.

As a result, this versatility makes DotYeti a one-stop-shop for all your graphic design needs.

  • The Basic plan ($449 per month) covers simple requests such as banners, social media graphics and posters
  • The Premium plan ($1,145 per month) expands to cover custom illustration, GIFs, logo & branding, merchandise design and animations
  • The Royal plan ($2,395 per month) is best suited for clients looking for a full scale on-demand creative team and includes video editing and web page design

To summarize, there is something for everyone. Here, you get to choose exactly what you need without any extra hassle.

Instead of having to juggle multiple freelancers for each project, simply offload your entire creative production, so you can focus on what matters most.

9. Brilliant Design Pioneers

Our creative team is helmed by Art Directors and staffed by graphic designers who are most sought after for their talent and experience.

We are proud of the high quality of our design work and the trust that our clients place in us every day. We maintain this trust by selecting only top talent graphic designers who are able to creatively interpret your ideas and put pen to paper in the most visually stunning way.

Furthermore, DotYeti was one of the first graphic design platforms with a true online operation. All of our designers are pioneers in their own right as the new wave of digital creatives.

Productivity and creativity are limitless and we’re building at the frontier.

10. Built for the Future

Investing in graphic design services has proven to be an excellent investment for startups to multinationals to e-commerce shops. That is to say, as more consumers gain Internet access, your website or social networking page is usually their first port of call when researching a product. In this highly competitive surge of businesses pushing out content, we want to help you outshine your competition through attention-grabbing designs.

Curious to know the most effective ad anatomy for your images to always be at the top of the news feed? Wondering if GIFs will boost your engagement rates? Thinking about extending your brand exposure by creating merchandise designs?

We love helping businesses reach greater heights as we help unleash their full creative potential. We will make sure that you’re never a step behind in the digital world.

11. Sleek Design Platform

We created our feature-rich and user-friendly design platform to deliver a streamlined creative experience. We’re very proud of our tech team. They addressed each client’s pain point and developing a proprietary platform that solves all of them. Here are a few features we’d like to highlight:

  • Submit your request, receive status updates, chat with your design team and get files all in one place
  • On image feedback tool that lets you show your designer exactly where you’d like revisions to be made
  • Ability to add unlimited brand profiles

12. Always-On Customer Support

We’re all about communication at DotYeti!

Whether that’s ensuring smooth communication with you, among team members dialing in from different countries, or in the designs that communicate with your target audience.

There are always multiple ways to get in touch with our team. You can launch a chat on the platform or reach out via the chat icon on the website. Additionally, feel free to shoot us an email, talk to your Personal Yeti, or schedule meetings at the most convenient time for you.

You’re always guaranteed to be speaking to a human—not a robot—whenever you need our support.

13. Free illustration library

Our free illustration library lets you pick and choose from over 150 world-class illustrations in 4 different styles. They’re ready to add a pop of color, character, and energy to your marketing materials!

The library has been curated by our crew of professional graphic designers. It covers the widest variety of topics, interests and categories. Thinking about a colorful illustration to promote your yoga course? Looking to spruce up your furniture sale campaign? Need an illustration to drive home a key message? Look no further. You’ll find all these designs and more in our library. We’re delighted to offer this resource for free to everyone looking for creative support.

14. Design Credits

We meant it when we said we were committed to maximum creative freedom!

It may not make much sense for clients with smaller creative workloads to subscribe to an unlimited graphic design plan. In other words, why commit to paying for illustrations, logos, and banners when you’re unsure about when you might need them? Our design credits take care of this stress.

Other graphic design services are rigid in their monthly subscriptions. However, we’re happy to go the extra mile by offering design credits that can be purchased now and redeemed later. Furthermore, our design credits have lifetime validity. This means you can quickly fire up creative horsepower whenever the need arises without having to worry about monthly subscriptions. Purchase discounted credit bundles and redeem them whenever you want to.

15. Perks Program

Last but not least, we’re proud to offer exclusive discounts for our favorite productivity apps. Our clients sometimes confide to their Personal Yetis about the roadblocks that they were experiencing in other areas of their business.

In response, we set out to brainstorm a list of apps that we believed would effectively help tackle these roadblocks. Afterwards, we tested out the products ourselves. Finally, the shortlisted few were chosen to feature in our perks program. We’ve even integrated them into our own workflow to help us work better together as a team.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the possibilities for graphic design are limitless and there are many services to choose from. Most importantly, it is advisable that you invest in a high-quality graphic design service that is affordable and scales with your business growth.

Firstly, in-house teams are expensive to maintain and not scalable. Secondly, an agency doesn’t prioritize communication and they charge high fees. Finally, freelancers are certainly challenging to find and coordinate. However, collaborating with the right graphic designer frees up more time and resources so you can do what matters most.

DotYeti is an unlimited graphic design subscription service. We’ve worked with hundreds of clients, from multinationals to startups, to level up their marketing campaigns. Needless to say, our designs are seen by millions of audiences worldwide and trusted to effectively communicate key messages. We’ve created logos, banners, videos, animations, website designs, illustrations, and much more.

Our designs are visually appealing, on-brand, and remarkably creative. Furthermore, they drive marketing results and sales. Our team works with you to ensure that every creation is aligned with your goals.

Equally as important, clients appreciate our dedication to excellent customer service. We want to personally show you how incredibly seamless the creative journey can be. We accomplish this through productive communication and meeting all our deadlines so that you never have to worry about meeting yours.

Exclusive Perks

Our design platform makes getting your designs a streamlined and hassle-free experience. Additionally, we’re proud to offer a Create & Accelerate program for early-stage startups, design credits, and a free illustration library.

Graphic design for marketing in 2022 is incredibly important. Investing in a graphic design team that understands all the ins and outs will meaningfully improve your marketing goals.

We’re a bit biased, but here are the top most creative people to ever exist, according to DotYeti.

Creativity comes in many different forms.

As design people, we don’t just appreciate art that comes from graphic design work. We appreciate all forms of expression! In fact, that’s why this list doesn’t just feature the graphic designers we all know and love.

We’ve got fashion designers, singers, authors–you name it, we got it! Because creativity isn’t just limited to the visual arts.

Now, on to the top most creative people to ever exist!

10. Elsa Schiaparelli

This fashion designer is more than just Coco Chanel’s rival. Her theatrical and sculptural take on women’s gowns still manages to impress the world’s biggest stars today.

Today, her fashion house dresses fashion-forward celebs like Doja Cat, Bella Hadid, Lady Gaga, Adele, and more!

9. Orson Welles

Did you know that Orson Welles was only 24 years old when he directed Citizen Kane? This award-winning auteur, actor, producer, and screenwriter is a master of nonlinear narratives, dramatic lighting, and unconventional camera angles.

His work in theater, radio, and film was so iconic that he is still considered an influence for many artists today.

8. J R R Tolkien

Before Harry Potter of Game of Thrones, there was The Lord of the Rings. And is there anything more creative than an author creating a whole new language for his characters?

Yes, because of his love for linguistics, Tolkien made up multiple languages for his book series including Elvish, Sindarin, and Quenya.

7. Viola Davis

most creative people ever

Image by ILZE KITSHOFF for SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT

Emmy-nominated actress Viola Davis always brings the house down with her superb acting skills. More than that though, she’s part of the notorious EGOT crew—meaning she has an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award!

The How To Get Away With Murder actress began her career in theater. And today, she’s making waves on the big screen. Her most recent blockbuster role is in The Woman King.

6. Archie Boston

most creative people ever

Next, if you don’t like politically and racially charged visuals, then you won’t like Archi Boston. But maybe that’s okay. He started his prolific career as a graphic designer in numerous ad agencies in the LA area.

Archie went on to create Boston & Boston Design with his brother in 1967, making it one of the first Black-owned agencies in the US at the time. He went on to become a professor of design at California State University.

Even though he’s now retired, he’s still making an impact in the Black creative community. In 2018, he and his brother produced the documentary Black Pioneers in Sunshine City–which followed the lives of activists in St. Petersburg, Florida.

5. Ikko Tanaka

most creative people ever

When it comes to turning simple shapes and elements into one powerful image, we bow to Ikko Tanaka and his masterful understanding of abstract art. He is best known for his poster for the dance troupe Nihon Buyo Performance in 1981. Throughout his career, he would also be known for his poster designs for Noh productions.

More than that though, he’s made a name for himself by creating the brand identity for Japanese brands like the Seibu Department Stores, Hanae Mori, Issey Miyake, and many more.

Did we mention that the ‘no brand’ identity of MUJI is thanks to him?

4. Margaret Zhang

most creative people ever

When it comes to Vogue magazine covers, Vogue China is constantly staying on top of the came. And that’s mostly thanks to Margaret Zhang’s crazy good editorial work.

Did you know that in 2021, she became the youngest EIC at Vogue at 27 years old? Talk about talent.

She started out as a blogger, then a photographer, stylist, filmmaker, and creative consultant, but all these words don’t really highlight her breadth of skills.

That being said, we’re excited to see what she does next.

3. Beyonce

Okay, hear us out. If we hear the word performer, we’ll be thinking of Queen B. Apart from her amazing vocals, she’s just an all-around great performer, producer, and visual artist.

We highly recommend checking out clips from her Renaissance tour. Why?

The production is top-tier! That includes moving arm robots, excellent wardrobe changes, and a creative (and highly technical) stage production.

2. Frida Kahlo

Looking for another strong female artist? Look no further with Frida Kahlo. The Mexican feminist is a master at expressing deep and complex emotions through her artwork.

Her self-portraits speak volumes about her strength and personality, so it’s no surprise she developed a cult following many years after she passed.

1. George Lois

They say print is dying, but really, we think it shouldn’t. If anyone is a master at designing print covers, it’s George Lois. He’s most famous for his Esquire covers in the 60s and early 70s. His visionary eye has been hailed by multiple art clubs and creative artists.

Plus because of his proficiency in ad-making, he’s rumored to be the real-life inspiration behind Mad Men’s  Don Draper.

Oh, and in 2008, 32 of his Esquire covers were even exhibited by the Museum of Modern Art!

The most efficient way to fulfill your creative needs

And there you have it, ten creative people in various industries that are masters at their craft.

However, there’s a whole lot more out there.

So if you’re looking for a place to get your creative projects done by other creatives, then check out DotYeti!

When done right, a graphic design portfolio website can make your design journey so much easier. You’ll get potential clients, a gallery of professional work, and an awesome website to call yours. The problem? Unless you’re using a template, a portfolio takes a while to put together.

When you throw the design aspect into the mix, it gets even more confusing. Not to mention time-consuming. If you’re not sure how to go about it, this must-read design guide will help you learn the ropes.

Graphic Design Portfolio Website Examples To Spark Your Imagination

The best web portfolios don’t feel templated. Instead, they use a variety of techniques to appeal to their audience.

On one hand, you can make your case with a strong user experience and design. Layout and motion are important elements you can leverage to your favor. However, some artists prefer to appeal using their color palette and typography. Using the same elements, you can reference your personal brand through repetition.

1. Pawel Nolbert

Aside from Pawel Nolbert’s striking paint aesthetic, his portfolio will greet your eyes first. You can see how he has positioned his work so that colors slightly reference each other as you scroll down. It’s a great way to show that you have a strong personal design style.

2. Aries Moross

If you want to go the edgy and modern route, follow in the footsteps of Aries Moross. In their portfolio, street and hype designs are laid out in seemingly random areas and even placed on top of each other. It’s a welcome treat to the eye, and a good reference to their punk aesthetic.

3. Maria Marie

If you want to emphasize your brand identity, it’s best to look up to Maria Marie. From her home page to her portfolio, you’ll get an unmistakable pastel color palette. Anything from light pinks, lilacs, yellows, and greens–she’s got it. Her consistency really pays off.

4. Ryan Askins

Meanwhile, Ryan Askins is keen on riding the anti-design wave. Be overwhelmed with his intentionally abrasive design choices–loud fonts, contrasting colors, moving elements, and more. Rather than showing off his work, you’ll be more immersed in his design choices–which is really just a way for you to keep exploring his site.

5. Brandon Perez

A good way to make your mark as a graphic designer is through repetition. If you want to be remembered, it’s always a good idea to reinforce your brand. Brandon Perez does an amazing job of designing his graphic design website portfolio using this strategy. With his green text borders over a gray graphite background.

6. Tobias van Schneider

However, if you don’t want to be boxed into one style, you need to see how Tobias Van Schneider made his portfolio. It’s comprised of various aesthetic elements. Not only that, but he also frequently changes his typography, background, and other assets. It’s proof that creative work doesn’t always need to play by the rules.

7. Alex Trochut

Are you a multimedia graphic designer with lots of projects under your belt? It can be challenging to show your work without confusing the audience. Thankfully, this portfolio by Alex Trochut gets it done in a clean and user-friendly way. Each of his projects contains tags and is separated into columns, so you can easily navigate the site.

8. Victor Valiente

Meanwhile, if you’re a motion graphic designer, you can take some cues from Victor Valiente. His site is filled with short video clips of his work, but it’s his design choices that really pop. The ingenious use of yellow borders with his 3D-rendered motion designs really brings out the dash of playfulness his art embodies.

9. Raul Urias

Raul Urias has a striking visual style that will take your breath away. But what makes his web portfolio so effective is his choice to fill your whole screen with his artwork–a visual tapestry at its finest. He also separates his work projects from his personal ones, something more designers should do.

10. PinkPonyCreative

Finally, we have the design tour de force that is PinkPonyCreative. Aside from its use of bright pink, it’s also a master class in introducing your projects without overwhelming your audience. With every project, you get a sneak peek at what it’s about to save you more time.

Tips To Make A Portfolio That Lands Clients

Now you’ve seen great graphic design portfolio website examples. But if you don’t know what else to add to your graphic design website portfolio, you’ve come to the right place. We’re also letting you in on awesome tips to get your site noticed.

Make a case study

Case studies are a great way to pick a designer’s brain. If you want to tell more about your process, it pays to explain your design journey for a project or two. Your future clients may find your process interesting.

Add your experience

Most designers often forget to introduce themselves. But it’s imperative to let people know your work experience and educational background. Remember: you’re a person before you’re an artist. People want to know more about the person behind the design.

Mix up your gallery

It’s also extremely important to add variety to your portfolios. Have you done packaging for brands, illustrations, and book covers? Your audience wants to know! Mixing up your gallery can indicate that you’re a flexible designer with various talents.

Mind the details

Finally, any designer worth their salt should know that the devil is in the details. Little things like the favicon, your alt text, and captions can make or break your site’s bounce rate. Try to polish your portfolio as much as possible and make sure you leave no stone unturned before you publish.

Consider a blog

Blogging isn’t for everyone, but if you want to optimize your site, this is one of the best strategies to take. You can write about your works, and inspirations, or just give insights as a designer.

As far as trends go, there’s just no way of knowing for sure what will pique the most interest. After all, even the most hyped design choices can easily phase out after a few months.

However, there are some ways to predict what kinds of design will make a splash. One of them is looking at trends outside the world of graphic design. By looking at current events and emerging patterns from various industries, you’ll get an idea of the top design styles next year.

We’ve taken a long hard look at our surroundings. Reflected on what kinds of moments we’ve had the past year. And, after hours of research, here are the trends that we’re sure to see in 2023.

Graphic Design Trends 2023 Edition

The defining factors of the 2020s aesthetic are the love for retro nostalgia and punk aesthetics. More and more artists are going down the unconventional road—and people love it. You can say thanks to various factors here. The long-winded pandemic, the accessibility of AI technology and art tools, as well as the resurfacing of the Y2K aesthetic.

Whatever it is, designers aren’t holding back their expressive side. Because Gen-Zs love everything weird and funky, surrealism is going to play a huge role in typography, web design, print ads, and even packaging this year. Expect to see more expressive and unique designs that have bold concepts and even bolder colors.

1. Celestial Tarot Aesthetic

Interest in spirituality and mysticism has existed for years, but now it’s gaining a wider audience base. The beloved subculture gained popularity for its mysterious nature. Add to that the yearning for something certain—like the rules of the universe—and it’s not surprising to see the tarot-style and art deco aesthetic hit it off with younger audiences.

2. Color-Rich Tropicalism

The Y2K revival is also set on bringing back joyful and bright tropicalism. This color-rich aesthetic is most commonly used in the funkadelic and afrofuturism design circles, but it’s slowly permeating the mainstream. We expect the trend to come with bright and colorful prints, bright illustrations, contrasting geometrical elements, and bold, funky typography.

3. 3D Pastel Assets

With the rise AI art tools and the rise of the metaverse also comes the mashup of various design styles. Today, it’s not uncommon to see 3D elements permeate graphic design. You can see it in how logos, type, and even other graphic design elements. You’ll most likely see this design style in tech brands, but it could very well appear in other industries.

4. Funky and Geometric Elements

Color is still going to be huge next year. As the retro revival continues, we’re expecting to explore more Bauhaus-inspired elements. Expect bubbles, blobs, and sharp geometric shapes in bold primary colors. As more and more brands embrace strange-shaped aspects, it’s going to be interesting how these elements will be used by both minimalist and maximalist designers.

5. Experimental Typography

If there’s one trend that we’re guaranteed to see next year, it’s the continued boom for custom typography. More and more type designers are making their expressive fonts available for mainstream use, which is why we’re seeing an abundance of experimentype. We’re likely to see fonts with varying widths, depths, and dimensions–condensed fonts, bold fonts, distorted fonts, wavy fonts–all that jazz. Oh, and one more thing, expect to struggle reading typography next year. Most designers now favor hard-to-read type.

6. Holofoil Packaging

Meanwhile, we’re seeing hints of the holo craze being brought back in retro minimalist graphic designs. While in the past holo was used as the focal point of a design, it’s now become a strong accent detail used to elevate fonts, packaging, and small collaterals like business cards. Using foil print has become a favorite for many brands to bring a subtle hint of iridescence.

7. Era of the Aura Gradients

Hopping off the celestial tarot trend, we also expect to see the gradient play a more significant role in next year’s graphic design choices. It’s been a beloved trend for the last six months of 2022, and we expect this to pick up by wellness brands. The aura and noise element plays a huge role in online wellness culture, and it won’t be surprising to see this combined with botanical elements.

8. Bold Retro Illustrations

If you think the retro revival is finished, it’s not quite done yet. Right now, we’re seeing a revival of flat cartoon illustrations with retro elements–characters with gloves, huge boots, and exaggerated expressions. Think Mickey Mouse in the 50s but with illustrations but modernized.

9. Photos Galore

While photos are slowly dying off in social media–just look at the slow shift from photos to reels on Instagram–we are begging to differ. Companies are now more comfortable breaking the mold and incorporating images into their campaigns. logos, packaging, print ads–you name it. Plus, as more brands move to 3D designs, there’s definitely going to be more

10. Edgy and Rough Aesthetics

If there’s one thing Gen-Zs are known for, it’s being chaotic and out of the box. In 2023, we expect a similar frenzied vibe in layout and design. As an ode to the Y2K cyber aesthetic, we’re expecting to see more edgy and hyper-designed posters and magazine covers. At the same time, they’re keeping the graphite texture and wireframe elements trendy.

Graphic Design Trends 2023 Roundup

And there you have it. The top graphic design trends 2023 that design agencies need to watch out for. It’s likely that we’ll see an upward trend of experimental type, more metaverse-inspired branding, and strong bold colors. As we ride the nostalgia wave, we also expect to see some retro, vintage, and art-deco designs permeate the design space. On the other end of the spectrum though, some agencies may also play with punk concepts like anti-design.

Designs come and go, but the best design examples inspire graphic designers to make their own. Some designs are so good that you can’t help but admire them from afar. The importance of a good graphic design example can make or break an opportunity, a conversion, or a marketing campaign. And there’s not enough time to talk about the greatest designs that exist on the internet. So, we decided to compile the best graphic design examples we’ve seen and hopefully, it can encourage you to jump on the drawing board.

1. This plant identification app

graphic design example

A good graphic design example that expresses simple narratives includes this plant-identification app. This design shows how to use the app in a clear, direct manner while maintaining an aesthetic that plant lovers and photographers would definitely love. Becky Wood uses a hierarchy to show how the three levels of action are to be taken and ties the narrative together through repetition. An AGDA prize finalist, this project captured the eyes of its many users and design critics alike.

2. Afterclap Illustrations

graphic design examples

Illustrations are also a great element to combine with graphic design. Similar to the first post, this design by Afterclap Illustrations offers clear, direct messaging regarding what their product or service is about. The illustration enhances the experience by adding personality to the messaging.

3. Illustration of running athlete

graphic design illustration

Another illustration, this piece by Mariya Popova shows how simple illustrations can create motion through memorable graphic design examples. A counterpoint to hyperrealistic art, simple illustrations like these often miss out on details on purpose. But the goal is not to be minimalist, rather, it’s to focus on the narrative and the message. These kinds of graphic designs are not simple to make (despite being called simple illustrations).

4. Remote job graphic design

graphic design examples

This remote work illustration by Nickelfox (yes, we love illustrations) creates an artistic flair, cleverly showing the funny parts of working from home and the benefits they bring for both the company and employee (or rather the one looking for the job). Using the sine wave almost tells the story within itself, separating the person to the monitor. And to top it off, the different shades between the two scenarios convey the message of why people love remote work. Truly, this is a great graphic design example.

5. Another graphic line design

graphic design example

Here’s another example of an illustration and an S-line in the middle (we’re not apologizing for loving illustrations). But this design doesn’t convey a story through the lines, rather it uses the spaces to highlight the design with respect to the text. The text is placed on the white space making it easy to read, while the illustration conveying the service offered and the call to action button is blue, making it easy for the audience (and possible customers) to understand what the website is all about.

6. Pure graphic line design

graphic design example

Here’s another example of graphic line design but this uses lines more purely. It speaks for itself.

7. FLEUR

graphic design example

This graphic design for FLEUR uses a floral background with geometric forms, text, and lines. Judit Besze creates a stunning example of texture-based contrast in this example. She uses the hierarchy to provide more depth and interest to the design. And the arrangement of each element isn’t done without purpose, making it striking to the viewer.

8. Alignment and balance

graphic design example

Another great piece demonstrating alignment and balance. Created by Hiro Okuda, this design became a finalist for AGDA Award

9. Fruitea Friends

graphic design example

Wai San Woo uses alignment and balance perfectly for this Fruitea Friends packaging design.

10. Festival N°6 3-day pass

graphic design example

An award-winning graphic design for the Festival N°6 which is an annual festival held in North Wales. The use of shapes and consistency though simple speaks volumes.

11. Horror film festival

graphic design example

This illustration by Kory Schulz uses already known characters like Dracula and Frankenstein and his bride. A promotion for BFI Movie Festival, the poster gives an emotional feeling, with the characters looking at the viewer directly in the eye, perfectly fitting the horror genre.

12. 3D Illustrations

graphic design example

We’ve shown many samples of great illustrations. But many other great graphic design examples take inspiration from other styles. One practical concept you may have encountered many times is 3D graphic design. 3D graphic design has trended a few times and is still noticeably popular nowadays. An example of a good 3D graphic design is the one you see above. Realistic and modern, this takes inspiration from realistic concepts and turned into this graphic design example. Graphic design can take ideas from real-life items that we see and make them convey a story through designs.

13. Constrasting coffee

graphic design example

Award-winning Brandon Lee, a Shillington grad, expertly highlights three types of coffee from various nations in this product box design by using contrast and repetition. To contrast the text and icons, he makes use of vivid colors and straightforward geometric designs. The image asks the viewer to look and differentiate how the subsequent one differs, making each graphic design example distinguishable from each other.

14. Post as box design

graphic design example

This post-like clever graphic design by Forough Abadian makes use of contrast and repetition to convey these products come from Italy.

15. Making Spam marketable

graphic design example

This Judy DeMarco design makes use of repetition as well, marketing Spam to younger audiences. Short and direct to the point.

16. Fashion and graphic design

graphic design example

Bold and experimental, this graphic design example is also from Brandon Lee. The portraits work in conjunction with the added design, acting like a mask or a second face on top of the supposed real one. In juxtaposition, there is some form of repetition with the shapes.

17. New York design

graphic design example

Another bold and adventurous graphic design sample, this piece by Shawna X was created to reflect the New York scene.

18. Metallic colors

graphic design example

Another trendy graphic design concept, this piece by Sergey Varmir uses metallic colors on a 3D illustration to add depth and realism to the design. The domination of gold adds the symbolism of excellence and creativity and uniqueness and as it overpowers everything else, creates a unique vision for the viewer.

19. Typography

graphic design example

Typography is a good way to show a message without showing too much. In addition, it’s a good mixture between content and design that you can find multiple creative ways to illustrate a message or convey emotion without being too extra. It may seem like it’s just a word and making it fancy, but the above example (Elias Aken) executes typography so well, that it sparks interest from the viewer.

20. Typography again

graphic design example

Here’s another typography example, but using large fonts. Take a look at the website here for the full image.

21. Vintage 80s wedding

graphic design example

Vintage designs can be used to invoke emotions like nostalgia. This graphic design example makes great use of the 80s vibes.

22. Modern vintage branding

graphic design example

This graphic design by Mom and Popcorn also touches on vintage looks, to help connect with their audience on a nostalgic, emotional level.

23. Email templates

graphic design example

An example from email designs, we think this is great due to its clear-cut, direct-to-the-point, and engaging artwork and copy. The woman looks directly at the viewer, the copy is engaging, and the call to action button is clear.

24. Minimalistic approach

graphic design example

Here’s an example of flat icons for a modern, minimalistic approach to graphic design. Many companies have been shifting to minimalistic designs to attract and engage as many customers as they can.

25. Clever color gradients

graphic design example

graphic design example

And our last example: color gradients. Colors are and will always be an important part of graphics. So if all else fails, it’s never wrong to go back to your basics.

Many have asked ‘What is visual art?’ and have gotten different answers. Visual art is a broad term and can’t be defined by a single sentence. In a simple sense, visual art is for all types of art forms that can be seen or viewed, including filmmaking and performance and dance. These can be further classified into different types, defining the differences between each visual art and how they relate to each other.

The term ‘arts’ itself has gone through many definitions throughout history. The arts were limited to seven categories in the Middle Ages; namely arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, grammar, rhetoric, dialectic logic, and music. These categories were the so-called fine arts because they were studied by scholars, making them different among the labor class. After a few years, society has divided the purposes of science and art, separating them into different categories. Thus, the Middle Age fine arts lost all its science categories but gained literature, dance, and opera into their definition.

performative arts

After the 20th century, the arts split into four distinct categories: literature, visual arts, auditory arts, and performance arts. This is where visual arts initially came to be. Fast forwarded to the modern times, visual arts encompassed paintings, sculptures, videography, photography etc. Many art forms have also taken into shape because of technological advancement. Referring to the initial definition of what is visual art, visual arts are something the eyes appreciate for whatever purpose it may bring. And it has found its way into our daily lives through graphic design.

Different types of visual arts

Nowadays, visual arts are classified into different types, and we will define the common types known to the general population.

Fine arts

sculpture, a a sample of fine art

Defined as a type of art with visually pleasing qualities, fine arts allow artists to express themselves without limit. This type of art also enables artists to create art without the need for utility. Thus, it can be displayed or be used as a decoration for its own sake. Fine arts almost always cover the seven middle age categories above, but traditional definitions limit them to sculpture, painting or sketching and architecture. Fine arts are not to be confused by the comparative high art and low art. Many high art forms do not necessarily fall on the traditional definitions of fine arts.

Decorative arts

a sample of decorative art

Also called crafts, decorative arts have both aesthetic reasons and function, often disregarded as an art form due to it having both. Decorative arts are also seen in common goods and items but are separate from mass-produce items. Decorative art includes pottery, basket weaving, needlework, interior items but excludes architecture.

Commercial arts

a sample of commerical art

Commercial arts also have both utilitarian purposes and aesthetic purposes but often, commercial arts are used for monetary gain. Marketing creatives often create commercial arts, usually commissioned by brands and businesses to convey a specific message. These commercial arts are often seen in publications, graphic design and design services, photography, motion picture and the like.

Visual Artists and Graphic Design

Graphic design falls under the commercial arts of visual arts. Sometimes, it is also called applied arts. Applied arts are design and decorative concepts applied to everyday practical and utility objects to make them more pleasing. There has been tremendous debate whether to call graphic design as artists. Sometimes, some designers call themselves artists. But artists rarely call themselves designers.

Looking at their definition and function, artists and designers differ quite a bit. Though many of their concepts may overlap, artists create art that allows the artist to express themselves through visually pleasing forms. Whereas designers create artforms that convey a specific message. By function alone, artists and designers differ quite a bit. And knowing what visual art is all about, some of these concepts can be used on design.

The end goal of each art form also differs. While artists use art to inspire a feeling or provoke a thought, a designer’s ultimate goal is to convey a branding or a message. Artists and designers have different priorities. But designers still create visual art by definition. With that said, many of art’s principles may apply to graphic design. And there are many ways we can take advantage of that.

An interesting mix of visual art concepts

How does one take advantage of visual art principles for graphic design? Every visual art type can relate to graphic design but not all of it applies the same way. For example, sculpting relates to 3D form, which graphic design can relate in a way through 3D animation and illustration. Painting principles can relate to digital art.

Many well-known brands have taken advantage of the elements and principles of art and have translated them through graphic design. And long as it helps convey your message, you can apply these principles to help get your message across while maintaining a high-quality art form.

  • The element of color is the best example. Color is important but not only does it affect your graphic design’s visuals, but it also affects the viewers psychology. Many great artists emphasize color as a channel to convey certain emotions and these can apply to graphic design as well.
  • In graphic design, viewers often look at a two-dimensional piece. The element of form can also relate here if we want to take advantage of giving an object a certain height, depth, and width to create an illusion of three dimensionality.
  • The principles of art such as rhythm, balance, and proportion should also be studied when applicable. Some brands have taken advantage of these principles
  • Space has been by many brands to convey messaging. Some brands like using their white space when creating logos.
  • The principle of movement is also important for graphic design. When a viewer sees your project, they must know where their eyes should go to clearly understand the branding or the message. Graphic design has no time for abstract concepts, the message and direction must be clear from the start.

Should design services incorporate visual arts?

Graphic design services rarely talk about the principles of visual arts, but the question is, should it matter if they do? Robust knowledge of the elements of art and the principles of design can certainly provide an edge for a graphic designer and designer services. But more so, the capability of an artist or an art director to apply these principles can certainly give you an edge.

Visual art principles don’t all necessarily have to be used in a single project, but having the knowledge to use them, when necessary, can certainly give you an edge. A good graphic designer always reviews their elements and principles and applies them to their projects so they can convey their message much clearer. This helps audiences understand the brand clearly without having to think twice.

The hard lessons we learned & how you can thrive from it ✨— Reflection from Roy Selbach https://www.dotyeti.com/blog/reflection-from-roy-selbach/ Wed, 29 Dec 2021 11:54:28 +0000 https://www.dotyeti.com/?p=30095 The post The hard lessons we learned & how you can thrive from it ✨— Reflection from Roy Selbach appeared first on DotYeti Design.

As the world rapidly changes due to digital innovations and forced COVID measurements, we as a team also made quite an astonishing switch in mindset and focus. Adapting yourself and your company quickly doesn’t happen without jumping through different obstacles and pain points.

In the end, one important lesson that I learned is that your people are the most important aspect of the success of your business. And to keep your head cool even in the toughest of times.

I would like to take this time to take you through our journey in the Yeti-verse, which I believe will be beneficial for someone who is aiming for the stars. This can be for anyone: from business owners, entrepreneurs, marketers, designers to everyone else in between and outside. ✨

A look behind the scenes

As a graphic service provider, we have to arrange a lot of things behind the scenes. Most people don’t fully comprehend how complicated it can get to deliver the final designs. While we have developed a tailored platform that makes the custom graphic design experience as smooth as possible, graphic design still remains a creative artwork.

The designers are essentially artists—with each one having their unique specialization, from illustrations to animations. And on the other hand, you have clients with specific styles and needs. Combine these together, and you need to create perfect synergy in every single aspect. From understanding the client briefing, the design that needs to be delivered and its objective, and finally, of course, the turnaround time.

The thing that we van fully control is the experience and the flow, from receiving the briefing until final delivery. You can read more about what we have done to make our processes as streamlined as possible over here:

Hackernoon – How to Optimize Your Workflow: Time is Money by Roy Selbach

What we hold dearest

Creating and shaping a company goes with a lot of planning and upholding your values.

You can compare this to the blood running through your veins, or the DNA that makes you, you. From the start, we set a vision and tailored all of our activities towards accomplishing this vision. Even when times were bad (or good), we always circled back towards the core. This helped create clarity for the whole company.

I want to underline the importance of this for every reader. In our case, we differentiated between the vision for clients and for our staff.

To clients 🎨

“Becoming the most reliable on-demand creative platform by taking away all the frustrations of the graphic design process.”

To our Yeti’s 👩🏻‍🎨 👨🏻‍🎨

“Providing a friendly and innovative remote environment that supports creativity and job stability with the focus on personal growth and rewards.”

Even when we sometimes moved off-track, we always found a way to dive back into our core, our Yeti-DNA.

Some of the results we harvested in 2021

And what does all that hard work result in? Let’s take a look at the top-level results that we achieved in 2021.

Revenue

As we experienced high fluctuations in revenue with seasonal sales and churns, we still managed to grow over 250% from January to December, with an initial target of 200%. As we are a young start-up, we had seasons that far exceeded our expectations and months where we saw a huge decline. We learned from this experience and will make sure that these seasonal changes will be effectively tackled in the upcoming year. Having historical data will certainly prove useful in this regard.

Headcount

At the start of the year we had around 30 employees and this year, we are finishing our rollercoaster year with around 50 skilled employees. I am really grateful to the whole team working behind the scenes to make sure that DotYeti is growing in the right direction. To date, we’ve launched several community events and kick-started internal education programs to give everyone the chance to develop their personal skills.

Registrations & Clients

Ever since we launched our new platform this year, we saw impressive growth in registrations. Within one year, we managed to sign-up more than 1250 people to our platform. Those new registrations resulted in over 125 paying customers. And out of these, many still remain loyal to our service. They continue to enjoy the new features, growth, and high-quality processes that we’ve established and maintained over this period of time.

We quickly noticed that design is still a variable. It depends on the needs at specific moments in the customer journey. By analyzing the raw data that we had from our customers, we are paving the path towards a higher retention rate. Because of our platform and workflows, we are finally able to identify customer pain points in the early stages and come up with a viable solution. Besides that, we recently introduced the ability to pause subscriptions for those who need a short break. In the end, we are training all of our employees to create durable design experiences that are pleasing from the beginning till the end.

Development Milestones

Numbers don’t always tell the full story. I have seen large companies with millions of dollars in funding go bankrupt in just a matter of months. Therefore, we decided to almost fully bootstrap our company with just a handful of talented developers (2-4 people) who were willing to go that extra mile and who believed in what we do and what we stand for. With a fairly small development team, we were able to move mountains and accomplish a lot in a limited time.

I believe that, besides the sales and marketing aspects of the business, the founders also have to understand the core aspects. This translates into building the product from the ground up. Who else should know precisely what the customer needs and what has to be built?

Launched Our New Platform

Important Announcement: We Have A New Platform! - DotYeti Blog

I still remember in March 2021, our hearts started to pound faster and faster. After months of planning and building, we launched our brand new platform. It’s always an exciting moment of truth that determines whether our hard work pays off. We were also excited to see if our active customers were as hyped as we were about the dramatic change.

But, it was received with open arms! We even had many clients helping us behind the scenes with assessing and improving the platform. They gave us valuable insights on what had to be changed and the small bugs to fix as soon as possible.

After delivering the platform, we launched many new features that eventually became part of the Yeti ecosystem. To highlight some of the new features that were rapidly released after our core system upgrade:

  • Pay-as-you-go – We made it possible to accommodate one-time projects.
  • Illustration library – We created 150+ illustrations in 4 different styles accessible to everyone for free, client or non-client.
  • Perks program – We partnered up with big names in the industry to offer excellent perks for our clients
  • Credit packages – Credits can be purchased and redeemed for designs, or for a free trial for first-time clients
  • DotYeti Academy – We launched our own course platform, with a very unique and special first course. How to become a deaf web designer by Marvin. 100% done in sign language!
  • And many many other improvements…

Tackle problems and obstacles as fast as you can

As the year went by, not everything went smoothly. Operating a business is like taking care of yourself. In your life, there are unpredictable bad days. It’s important to ask yourself: what do you do when you are having a bad day? Are you sitting still and not solving problems, or are you proactively finding a solution time and time again? You are in control of the final result- in your life and in your business.

Jump into war mode, when necessary!

As the year went by, we saw many high seasons, but also a lot of low seasons with a higher churn rate than the other months. Running a start-up isn’t always the easiest thing, especially when you are always running on a tight budget. But missing a large VC-powered budget, actually makes you take action faster. It pushes you to come up with solutions and spot the weaknesses in your business.

At some point, we decided to take a 48-hour session to brainstorm and note down all the obstacles and opportunities that we should handle as soon as possible. We were very enthusiastic and jotted down as much as we could, even though we didn’t have enough space left on the board. This quickly escalated until we used up all of our glass windows as a whiteboard. Finally, we moved everything over to a Google Sheet, where we organized and segmented it into different categories such as: high/low impact, high/low impact, high/low cost, etc. This made it easier for us to pick the low-hanging fruits to focus on.

Running an 100% remote business isn’t always easy

The remote work culture has been something that we embraced from the start. It’s efficient, it’s convenient, but it definitely also comes with a lot of challenges. As I am a social person, I like to meet people face-to-face, give live presentations and help people directly. When running a 100% remote business, it’s hard to oversee all the work activities and coordinate tasks. That’s why we came up with a few solutions that helped to bridge these gaps.

First of all, we made SOPs and workflows for every department that provided all the necessary information to make sure that everyone had the right tools to do their job as well as possible.

Another important element in our success story, is using our platform to empower our designers. In this use case, we made a dashboard to show which team was working on which client and how busy they were. This gives us the insight to make the right decisions in terms of resource allocation and finding new talents.

Income vs Expenses

Another challenging obstacle for start-ups is that in the scaling phase, their expenses are significantly growing. You feel like this is the point that you should start investing more into people, marketing, sales, etc. However, when you start collecting more data and then look at a YoY level, you can identify that it can be just a short spike in terms of revenue. For start-ups, it’s extremely hard to make accurate revenue projections, and making wrong calculations can mean the end for your business. By following the practices of Profit First, we made some radical shifts in our thinking in how we should spend our budget. Which makes the success of our company more definite.

From the book: Profit First

Adapt to your Market Needs

As the creative space is evolving, we noticed that more and more clients were asking for new tools. There were 2 options:

1) Ignore it and just keep doing what you are doing
2) Adapt and fulfill the needs of your customers

Of course, we picked the second option, since we noticed a high need for these new tools from prospects and current clients. Instead of offering it directly, we provided a whole new educational program for our designers that prepared them for the new tools.

The final thought I’d like to share is to focus on the 4% of your business that really makes a difference. In other words, don’t get sidetracked by all the other activities that may come up on a daily basis.

What’s upcoming for 2022

As I don’t want to make this article too long and focus more on our learnings from the last year, I still would like to give a small teaser of what we will launch in 2022.

  • White-label graphic design solution – The possibility to use our platform, fully branded with your own design and hosted on your own website
  • Integration with Canva & Figma – Integrating Canva & Figma to directly start editing and commenting via our platform
  • API Integrations – Receive notifications and send requests from your favorite tools such as Slack, Trello, Teams, Asana, and more
  • Expansion into more countries – Setting up local offices around the globe (be where your customers are)
  • DotYeti Academy – Adding tons of new courses for upcoming creative talents, which helps in completing our Yeti-ecosystem
  • And much… much more!

As a growing company, we are always on the lookout for aspiring talents who can help get our business to the next level. Take a look at positions that we have open at this moment:
